Hair Transplant- Separating facts from myths

A head full of hair, which can be styled in any manner to suit the latest trends, is the dream of every person across different ages and genders. It wouldn’t be wrong to state that one’s hair, in many ways, gives them confidence. However, as one begins to grow older, their hairline begins to recede. As the body ages, its capacity to produce nutrients also tends to decline. This is one of the main reasons for the occurrence of hair loss during old-age. However, it is common knowledge that hair loss is prevalent in the younger generation as well. There are a number of issues that can cause this problem, ranging from scalp infection to an increase in the stress levels.

Hair transplantation procedures
Owing to the advancements in the field of Trichology, new techniques have been devised to make the process of hair transplant easy and efficient. The two most well-known methods are Follicular Unit Extraction and Follicular Unit Transplant. The difference between the two measures can be analysed on the basis of the method through which the hair follicles are extracted.
a)      Follicular Unit Extraction-
In the FUE procedure, the surgeon, carefully creates a circular cut around the hair follicle. This enables the doctor to remove the strand of hair along with its root, without hurting the patient. Since each incision has a radius of .5mm-1mm, the patient does not suffer extensive bleeding. On the contrary, the wounds heal within a span of two-three days. Additionally, the patient hardly feels any pain during the procedure, as the surgery is performed after subjecting the extraction site to local anesthesia. Being one of the best hair transplant centres in Delhi, we ensure that the patient enjoys the highest form of comfort when the surgery is ongoing by watching television, reading their favourite book or interacting with the friendly staff. The period for the procedure depends on the hair density that the patient and doctor have decided to achieve post the first session. More importantly, the doctor needs to dedicate extra time to those patients who have larger bald spots. Generally the hair transplant process does not last for more than four hours.

b)      Follicular Unit Transplant-
The second method used to achieve hair re-growth is termed FUT; where the experienced surgeon carefully removes a long strip of hair at one go. This strip, referred to as ‘graft,’ is dissected into smaller pieces to obtain hair follicles that need to be transferred to the recipient site. To achieve the best results, the surgeon must ensure to extract the best quality graft.
The cost of the procedure depends on the procedure that is going to be adopted to cure the baldness. Prior to the surgery, the trichologist checks the grade of the patient’s baldness. If the baldness can be treated through medication, the patients are advised against going in for surgery. On the other hand, if the patient requires immediate attention, then the doctor may suggest either FUE or FUT. In certain cases, a combination of the two techniques is used. As one of the best hair transplant centers in Delhi, we provide hair transplant options for areas other than the scalp, such as the restoration of the beard and moustache.
